23 caminhoneiros contrários à vacina obrigatória são presos

Na noite dessa terça-feira (8), 23 caminhoneiros foram presos enquanto participavam de um protesto contra a obrigatoriedade da vacinação anticovid no Canadá. Os manifestantes estavam bloqueando o tráfego na ponte Ambassador, que liga o Canadá aos Estados Unidos.

De um lado da ponte Ambassador, está a cidade americana de Detroit. Do outro lado, fica a província canadense de Windsor. A passagem de fronteira é considerada a mais movimentada da América do Norte. Além das prisões, mais de 1.300 multas foram aplicadas.

O bloqueio começou na última segunda-feira (7) e tem como objetivo protestar contra a exigência do passaporte sanitário para atravessar a fronteira. Estima-se que cerca de 8 mil veículos de carga, responsáveis pela movimentação de 27% do comércio entre os países, cruzam a ponte todos os dias.

O ministro de Segurança Pública do Canadá, Marco Mendicino, disse que acredita no direito à liberdade de expressão, mas “esse comboio cruzou a linha de conduta aceitável”.

Em posicionamento parecido, o primeiro-ministro Justin Trudeau disse que os protestos “têm que acabar”.

– Indivíduos estão tentando bloquear nossa economia, nossa democracia e a vida de nossos cidadãos – disse Trudeau.

Ele chamou os manifestantes de “pequena minoria marginal”.

Os atos dos caminhoneiros contra a obrigatoriedade da vacinação no Canadá começaram no 28 de janeiro, em Ottawa. Manifestantes contrários ao governo de Trudeau também aderiram aos protestos, que se espalharam para outras cidades, como Québec e Toronto.
